SETI Search Strategies

A good SETI search strategy is like a map for buried treasure.
Some treasure maps for SETI have already been consulted, but the gold
and jewels were not found.
We must take each new treasure map for SETI in turn, follow the dotted
line to the "X", and dig. If the treasure is not there, then pull out a new map.
A good treasure map is a model of geographic reality. What is on the
map mirrors the landscape. It can be evaluated before the journey to
search is started.
Most likely the treasure, if it exists, will not be so hard to uncover if we have
made good assumptions.
The discovery of evidence of life beyond Earth
will profoundly affect humankind. If a treasure map for SETI can be devised
that is possible to follow and reasonable in the expense and effort to verify,
it is worth following, in my opinion.
