Dear DAG,

I have always had a keen interest in space but with the everday rigours of life have never got around to taking it seriously. I moved from England to Sharjah to take up a teaching position and the beautiful clear skies have prompted me to take the first step: buying a telescope!

I have done my reading on refractors and reflectors but I am still a little unsure about where to go to buy a telescope. Perhaps you can help me by suggesting a model or a shop that may be helpful. I only have a budget of around 1000 dirhams.

After I have grasped the basics I would love to come and visit you for some more tips.
